Before We Begin
Mediation starts before the parties come to the table. I take the time to understand the case, the decision-makers, and what may not be apparent from the file. When helpful, I’ll talk with counsel beforehand to get that perspective.

Profile

Will is a certified mediator with nearly two decades of experience litigating civil cases in state and federal court. His litigation practice has been broad and varied, including business and commercial disputes, legal malpractice, employment, insurance coverage, tort, construction, banking, medical malpractice defense, and landlord/tenant matters.
After spending much of his career advocating for clients in difficult disputes, Will has developed a strong appreciation for the value of resolution. Litigation provides an important means of resolving disputes, but it is not always the best means. A negotiated resolution can give parties greater control over the outcome, reduce uncertainty, and allow them to move forward without the cost and disruption of continued litigation.
Will brings that perspective to his mediation practice. He draws on his experience as a litigator to help parties realistically assess their positions, understand the risks of continued litigation, and identify opportunities for resolution. His goal is not simply to move cases toward settlement, but to help parties find practical resolutions that make sense in light of the circumstances of the dispute.
Will mediates civil disputes of all varieties.
Process
No two cases are alike, but here’s how the mediation will generally unfold.
Mediation starts before the parties come to the table. I take the time to understand the case, the decision-makers, and what may not be apparent from the file. When helpful, I’ll talk with counsel beforehand to get that perspective.
Joint session when it’s useful. Caucus when it’s not. I’ll use the approach that best fits the case, with candid conversations about the risks, realities, and opportunities for resolution.
Not every case settles in the room. When there’s still a path to resolution, I stay engaged and help keep the conversation moving.
